Mirowitz teachers and parents are a team. Together we celebrate a child’s greatness, and together we work through challenging moments. Together we strive to give them an idyllic childhood and also to “teach them to swim.” |
There’s a text in the Talmud that says that parents must teach their children three things: Torah, a trade and to swim. At Mirowitz, in a sacred parent-teacher partnership, we nourish the soul, we prepare children for success in life and teach them to stay afloat amidst the rocky waters that inevitably will come their way.
Tonight begins parent teacher conferences. We hope you are embracing this opportunity to connect as your child’s team of adults who will share information about academic progress, and discuss both strengths and challenges.
But our work goes far beyond the mechanics of the conference…for we know that the job of raising children is holy work. We want for your children what you want for them: that your children thrive in the classroom and on the playground, that they feel both challenged and successful, that they recognize the good in themselves and in each other. |
The best way to help move every child to her or his potential is together, as a team of loving adults. Thanks in advance for taking the time to partner with us! We look forward to seeing you on Zoom. |

In case you missed it, our new chickens had a formal Jewish naming ceremony Friday. Mirowitz second graders (our chicken guardians) learned about Jewish traditions for choosing a name and the rituals involved at a brit or baby naming...and then organized one for OUR new (feathered) babies. Here's how they were introduced to the school: |
"We were all excited when this beautiful hen was born in the middle of the night and we found her in the incubator in the morning. Which is why we named her… Lilah! Lilah means night, the time of day she joined us. Lilah, welcome to Mirowitz. |
"We wished for this chicken to have a good soul and good spirit in the future so we named her…Neshama! Which translation means Spirit or Soul. Neshama, welcome to Mirowitz!"
"We named this chicken, with the longer neck, who is looking forward to warmer days, better days, brighter days, after the warmest time of the year, so her name from now on should be…Kayitz, which means Summer. Kayitz, welcome to Mirowitz! |

Our G*d and G*d of our mothers and fathers, please may these baby chicks be ours, and may they–within our Jewish community–be known by the names Lilah (Night), Kayyitz (Summer), and Neshamah (Soul). May our whole community take intentional joy in them, and may our G*d help them to have good health and a good, long life. |
And...we concluded with the chicken dance! |

As the war unfolds in Ukraine, our hearts are torn apart. We pray with renewed sincerity for peace and wholeness for all people. We feel more connected than ever watching President Zelensky, a fellow Jew, lead his country through the horrors of a war on democracy.
Our hearts are with our Mirowitz families who have relatives in Ukraine, and who have already suffered losses. Our concern for the Jews in Ukraine, in Russia, and all over the world continues to rise as we are brought back to darker times of war and division.
May God who makes peace in the heavens bring peace upon us, upon all Israel and all the world.
Mirowitz joins the Jewish Federations of North America in the urgent work of rescue and relief. |

Thanks for visiting us, Rebecca Bloom, and for sharing with Mirowitz parents how your own day school experience impacted you:
"From the moment I graduated, I was always seeking out a community like Mirowitz. That's why I got involved in NFTY and JSU in high school....Even today, my friends and I get together for Shabbat dinner, and our parents aren't even telling us to do that!"
Rebecca is the Assistant Director of Admissions and Marketing at Bernard. Zell Anshe Emet Day School in Chicago. (The apple does not fall far from the tree!) |

Thanks Jen Goldenberg, Jeffrey Abraham and Elyse Picker for helping us serve lunch this week.
If you are able, please sign up to volunteer next week by logging onto the Mirowitz App on your computer here. |

Your loving kindness, envelop it in Your peace, and bestow Your light and truth upon its leaders, ministers, and advisors, and grace them with Your good counsel. Strengthen the hands of those who defend our holy land, grant them deliverance, and adorn them in a mantle of victory. Ordain peace in the land and grant its inhabitants eternal happiness.
